Imagine Editing- Colour change

I found this image on the internet i used Photoshop to manipulate it. I used the polygon select tool to make a close selection around the skater in the middle. Then i inversed the slection so the background was selected. I wanted to make my skater stand out so by inversingthe selection i could turn the background black & white. I did this by removing all the Hue and Saturation from the selected background.
So my final outcome was a skater in full colour on a black & white background. This shows the skater is the center of attention.

Image Editing- Feathering

This is an image that i found on the internet and decided to do some editing on it. First i used the polygon select tool to make close selections around the three chrubs in the middle.
Then i used the gaussian blur to gradually blur the background and from the select menu i used the feathering tool to also gradually feather the edges around the three chrubs in the middle.

I chose to edit this image because i wanted to develop my skills on Photoshop even further because these new skill im learning could become useful for my next project.

Evaluation

For this project i had to create a magazine front cover and contents page for a school or college. The front cover had to show a student in medium close up, include appropriately layed out text and a masthead.

I based my magazine front cover around media so i had to ensure it was very creative and really anchors the media theme. I chose a target audience of college students because students are mainly influenced by the media and things that are happening in society.

I found parts of this task easy and some part difficult. The task was easy because i had a clear understanding of the task, the layout i wanted and how i was going to create my front cover. The task was also easy because im confident with Photoshop and Desktop publishing, so i knew which tools to use, approriate effects and font styles.
However i found some parts of the task difficult because i had to ensure my front cover got the media issue message across, i had tp ensure it was creative and appealing to my target audience. In order to achieve this i firstly ensured my main image was influenced by the media. This allowed me to do little creative with typography and logo design.
I've learnt how to create a simple yet effective front cover that will be appealing to a particular target audience, how different shots could influence the viewers interpretation and how to get the readers attention by the choice of typography, colours and image.
I have enjoyed this project because it allowed me to be creative and learn new skills.

Contents Page

This is my contents page, i've kept the design the same, i've used my main image but erased some areas to make it smaller. I've used the same font and colours that i used for my masthead. I chose to do this because it all flows together. I've also included my logo and the media issue label, to emphasise the fact that the issue is media a media issue.

Contents Page Mock up

This is my contents page mock up that i also drew on Photoshop and annotated on Desktop Publisher.

Ganer High Final

This is my final design for my preliminary task. For this task i had to use desktop publisher and an image manipulation program to produce a front page for a school or college magazine, featuring original photography of a student in a medium close up. The image manipulation program that i chose to use is Photoshop elements 3.0. The main colours that i'm using on my front cover are pink, black and a dark shade of green. I've chosen the web colours format for my font colours because they're alot brighter. On the front cover i used the school motto as the skyline; i chose a black background and a hard pink to make it stand out. For the masthead i've used the gradient tool to add the multicolour effect. I've used the same colours on the masthead that i've used for my font colour on my logo. I chose to keep all the colours the same because magazines usually use up to three colours for all the typography. For the kicker i've used one of the preset shapes in Photoshop and placed an notice for media club which also emphasises the media issue theme. I've also used a similar colour for my kicker that i've used for my front colours. The main image taken on a graffiti background that has been layered on to other graffiti backgrounds to create a dramatic background. The main image is placed in the two middle intersections. The model is seen on her mobile phone because mobile phones are very popular with teens and a product of media. And finally the school logo is slightly rotated because i think it would be more appealing to teens as it’s seen as informal and make the magazine more elitist because only members of the college who reads the magazine will recognise it.

Garner High Mock-up

I drew this mock up of my front cover on Photoshop and annotated it on Desktop Publisher.

Main Image

This is my main image that im going to use, i've also taken images of other graffiti backgrounds that im going to layer my main image over and manipulate the layers to make a brighter and more dramatic backgorund.
I've chose to make my model to be on her phone because mobile phones are very popular with teens.

First Mock up

For my magazine tagert audience im focusing on the school sixth form, so i wanted a youth culture approach. I took an image and placed it on a graffiti background. For the main image an everyday student in a jumper. I used this image because teens are usually seen as sporty and like following sporty trends. The model isnt over glamorous, she looks normal like an avergae teenager.
Im also making my issue an media issue which anchors the youth culture theme, becuase teens are mainly influenced by media today.

On the cover i have the school moto as the skyline, i chose a black background and a hard pink to make it stand out. For the masthead i've used the gradient tool to add the multicolour effect. I've used the same colours on the masthead that i've used for my font colour on my logo.
I've used bright colours for my straplines so that they'll stand out against the bright colours of the background.
Overall the use of bright colours represnts the youth culture theme and the graffiti background indicates the teenage target audience.

School logo

This is the logo for the school im going to base my magazine around. Garner High is an independent school and sixth form. For my magazine i'm going to focus on the sixth form side of the school. I made my logo from scratch on Photoshop. This logo was inspired by the Chuck Taylor converse logo.

Dwell Magazine

This is a task as part of our pre-production task. We were given a series of straplines, a masthead, sky line and price. we had to use the given information to create a magazine front cover. we were allowed to chose an image and manipulate the given information to create our magazine front covers.
For my magazine from cover i chose to use a young rebelious target audeince. I think the main image connects with the target audeince, becuase Kiera's hairs blowing and shes wearing a black low cut top. The image anchors the "biker chick" look. Following the biker chick look i used black, grey and a hot pink for my main colours. This was effective because magazine front covers usually use a maximum of three colours and these colours also connotes the rebelious attitude. So young girls who arent very feminie but like to keep up to date with the lastest trends, celebrities and the real life stories avaliavble.
